Das Geheimnis der Loge.
Freimaurer in Chemnitz
1799 - 1999
Diese Austellung des Schloßbermuseums Chemnitz
versucht, das "Geheimnis" der zweitgrößten Loge Deutschlands
zu lüften, indem sie die Entstehung der Loge "Zur Harmonie" und ihr
Wirken in stadtgeschichtlicher Perspektive darstellt sowie Namen
und Berufe der 1800 Chemnitzer Freimaurer - darunter sehr viele bekannte
Persönlichkeiten - veröffentlicht.
Die Ausstellung und diese Homepage bieten aber auch eine kurze Einführung
in die für viele ganz fremde Welt der Freimaurer.
Diese Ausstellung entstand in Chemnitz noch aus einem anderen Grund:
Von 1936 bis 1943 haben die Nationalsozialisten in Chemnitz im Gebäude
der aufgehobenen Loge das "Sächsische Logenmuseum" betrieben,
in dem massiv Propaganda gegen die "undeutschen" und "pazifistischen" Freimaurer
gemacht wurde. Über 1 Million Besucher haben damals dieses Hetz-Museum
besucht.
Das Schloßbergmuseum als Historisches Museum der Stadt Chemnitz
sieht sich daher in der Verantwortung, die Geschichte gerade dieser besonders
diffamierten Loge wissenschaftlich zu erforschen und - übrigens als
erstes
öffenliches Museum in Deutschland seit 1945 - die Freimaurer mit
einer großen historischen Ausstellung zu würdigen. |

Freemasons in Chemnitz (Saxony)
1799 - 1999
| Our exhibition tries to reveal the "Secrets"
of the Lodge "Zur Harmonie" ("harmony") - the second biggest lodge in the
German Reich. We consider freemasons as an influential part of a local
community and so we stress the social context of foundation and
activities of this lodge as well as their impact on society. We also publish
name and profession of all the 1800 members of this lodge, anong
them many distinguished merchants, factury-owners, teachers or musicians.
This exhibition and this hompage are presented by the town of Chemnitz
for a particular historic reason, too. In the Third Reich the sumpotuous
building of the "Harmony" was after the abolition of this important lodge
used as a museum for anti-mason propaganda. From 1936 until 1943
over 1 Million of visitors came from Central Europe and learned there that
freemasons are important enemies of the "New Germany", because they are
the source of pacifist and internationalist mind as well as promoters of
liberty movements and revolutions. And - worst of all - they were all Jewish.
Our museum, the Municipal Museum of History, is in obligation after
such a widespread defamation. So we decided to do honour to this lodge
by preparing a big exhibition on occasion of their jubilee. By the way:
this is the first big historic masonry exhibition of a public museum
in Germany since 1945. |
